* One in thirty-three youths received an aggressive sexual solicitation.

The total number of reported sexual crimes increased to 383,000 in 1999, up 50,000 from 1998's 333,000 total assaults reported.
The number of reported rapes increased by 20%, while the number of attempted rapes declined by 25%.
Women are 7.5 times more likely to be victims of sexual assault than men.
In 1999, 54% of all violent crime victims knew their attackers; almost 70% of all rape and sexual assault victims knew their offenders as acquaintances, friends, relatives, or intimate partners.
Only 28% of rape and sexual assault victimizations were reported to police in 1999 while other violent crimes involving robberies were reported at a rate of 61%; aggravated assaults were reported at 55%; and simple assaults were reported at 38.5%.

In one-third of all sexual assaults reported to law enforcement, the victims were younger than 12 years old.
With respect to the sexual assault of males, 8% were between the ages of 12-17 and 26% were under the age of 12.
For victims under age 12, the offenders were family members in 47% of assaults, acquaintances in 49% of assaults, and strangers in 4% of assaults.
Young juveniles (under the age of 12) are most likely to be sexually assaulted by persons under the age of 18; older juveniles are most likely to be assaulted by young adults.
The incidence of sexual abuse was almost three times greater among females than males.
